About Dr Rogers

Dr Rogers has hosted a series of podcasts that can be found here  and now has a YouTube channel enabling blended training to be offered. A recent webinar for Whole School SEND can be found here.

Dr Rogers has had a diverse career in education and system leadership. Having qualified to teach at the University of Oxford, Dr Rogers taught for 12 years in secondary schools in England and New Zealand. While geography was the main subject, periods teaching special needs, sport and outdoor education were formative experiences. Through this period Dr Rogers developed his early leadership experience, being fast-tracked in to leadership roles. An interest in teacher training and research led to the next stage of his career as a Teaching and Educational Research Fellow at the University of Exeter. This included leading PGCE programmes and completing a Masters in Educational Research. Implementing the skills learnt through the Masters, Dr Rogers studied for a Doctorate, completing a PhD, researching schools’ relationships with local communities and international partnerships.

More recently Dr Rogers has been involved in coordinating and delivering school improvement and professional development through the Teaching School Council, as Director of the Plymouth Teaching School Alliance, and then Director of Professional Development for one of the England’s national multi-academy trusts.

Dr Rogers utilises this diverse career in the delivery of programmes that are research and evidence-informed, whilst being accessible for busy professionals and designed to develop learning and collaboration. Dr Rogers also delivers engaging and thought-provoking key notes, and a range of other consultancy services including international school visits to Denmark, CPD audits and bid-writing. Testimonials:

“Jim is an engaging and inspiring trainer. He is a passionate, knowledgeable and realistic about education and teaching. His experience and insight helped the participants/NQTs to focus afresh, or for the first time, on their values and why they teach. His sessions are thought provoking and relevant. Jim is equally engaging at NQT level through to leadership level. He is a trainer that you can rely on to deliver sessions that will make a difference.” Helen Argall. Cornwall Teaching School Alliance

Jim has been supporting our trainer development work for three years and he never fails to bring a fresh insight and add value to the work we do. Examples of the services Jim has provided are:

·         Keynote addresses at our annual trainer conference – delivered to in excess of 300 delegates from a variety of trainer backgrounds (contractor/military/civil servant)

·         Support at a strategic level to develop and quality assure training delivery

·         Middle leader workshops

·         Arranging visits and partnerships to external training providers

Jim takes the time to get inside the organisation and his empathy and emotional intelligence allow him to win trust and explore issues with colleagues at all levels. His knowledge of the latest developments in educational research and his ability to translate these into simple day to day actions that have an impact is first class.

However, Jim’s real value is in putting the person at the centre of what he does; he develops, coaches and role models what is needed. He won’t shy away from a challenging conversation, but uses it to encourage reflection and change behaviours.
